Another challenging voyage, a whole hour and a half to Leinster Bay, or rather the eastern corner known as Water Melon Bay.

We went ashore and walked along the seashore to the ruins of Annaberg sugar plantation. These islands were Danish until the US bought them for $25m in 1917, partly to avoid them coming into the hands of Germany as a hostile nation, and also as a useful base for protecting the approaches to the  Panama canal.

It’s a lovely bay, very quiet and no rolling like last night from the ferries and passing boats in the channel. It was really quite magical after sunset with the moon on the water, stars between the scudding  clouds, and cicadas calling in the trees just  on shore.

Along our walk we found signs warning of nesting sea turtles, and Fiona spotted some of their nests low in the trees. Naturally we wondered how the turtles get up there….
