Round the corner from Trellis Bay is Sandy Island, a perfect “desert island” with great snorkelling.

We picked up one of the mooring buoys provided by the marine park. Jan and Ilka went to look at the reef and the fish, whilst I went to snorkel the buoy to check it.

Not staying here I thought, the rope was half chaffed through. Shortly after the park rangers turned up asking for EC$25, which I refused to pay as it was dangerous. Their excuse was that they don’t have rope on Carriacou and were waiting for more from Grenada. When I told them they should mark the buoy as unsafe they didn’t seem to see the point. Sometimes the Caribbean attitudes are self-destructive.

So we went over to Hillsborough and anchored to check out of Grenada.
