We chillaxed for 2 days at one of our favorite bays near donkey island. Last year we also visited this spot with our friends Doris and Manfred, Manfred claimed to see donkeys, but we thought he was hallucinating.  Turns out, he was right.  We saw four each  evening and Martin heard them braying in the wee hours of the morning. I was worried about them as they kept making their way down to the ocean and would look at the water but not drink.  Not to worry, on our last day we saw park rangers arrive with cans of what we think was water.  When the boat left, the donkeys brayed like crazy….(sorry to have missed the visitors???)  Later we saw them at the spot where the water was dropped.  I named them Snortie, Twinkie, Choco and Junior.  We set off for our next anchorage on the island of Kornat in a bay called Statival.  Really pretty, with a little Konoba, after a swim and some lessons on the dingy for me, we went to the restaurant and ordered 2 beers. We then thought we would hike to the top of one of the surrounding mountains. Ah-yi-yi! Getting to the top took a lot of grunting, there is lots of loose shale and the kalk stones are sharp, one must tread carefully, but the view at the top was worth it.  Looking down the back of the mountain towards the  western side of the Kornat, one can see a memorial to 12 firefighters that died battling a fire in 2007. They have made twelve crosses of stone, all across the mountain side. A moving tribute. We got back and later had dinner at the restaurant, watching the owners go out and catch fresh fish for us!!! We also got to buy some ‘trinkets’, there were 3 boys who set up their ‘stand’ selling seashells and little paintings. Tough negotiations followed, and they got the better of us.
