We arrived in St Johns in the afternoon of Mondaytied up to a rickety old pontoon on the Customs dock We entered the harbour in thick fog and it was raining cats and dogs!. We checked in to Canada over the phone and were given a registration no . Simple as that. Then off in to town By the time we got ashore the Port authority was closed as were the shops and ten minutes walking and we were drenched. back to the boat for dry clothing and into town again for food and wine.
On Tuesday we set off early for the Port authority to pay and get our welcome pack. Armed with the information fron the friendly Harbour master we found a shop to buy charts for Nova Scotia and a fuel station where we ordered a tanker to deliver to the boat.We had to move Festina alongside the main Wharf  so that the tanker could get to us.St Johns is a big city with fishing and the oil rig business keeping them busy and prosperous. As we came ashore we saw two statues one of a Newfoundland Labrador and one of a Labrador. This as the name suggests is where they originate from.
The people were so friendly, chatty and helpful and seemed very interested in our travels. One couple took us to the Big Walmart store and julie was amazed at the produce even finding Yorkshire tea bags and gingernuts. We are back in civilisation!
After all the mornings activity we set sail again heading for Halifax and Nova Scotia. 550 n miles away. We should be in Halifax early on Friday and Julie says to tell her daughter that she will be back for the wedding after all!
