time to catch up on the gossop!
On Saturday and Sunday we were in Boston. A
thriving city, centre of MIT and Harvard full of genious's. We went round the US
Constitution marina but not the ship which was closed for a month for
restoration. The oldest warship over 200 years old. Then a bus tour around the
sights of Boston,Cambridge and Charlestown. a couple of walks into town to walk
the pubs and nightlife.
On Sunday we sailed through the Cape Cod Canal to
Kingman Yacht Centre In Buzzard Bay. The trip to the canal was one of the best
sailing at 9 knots in wall to wall sunshine. On the way we spotted a Right Whale
(a protected species).then into the seven mile long canal where you cannot
sail.We were motoring at ten knots and the fog closed in. As we were leaving the
canal a frigging huge car transporter entered appearing out of the fog about 50
metres away! The last six n miles was in fog through a narrow passage where the
depths were about 2.4 metres and we did manage to go aground twice. The Marina
doesn't open for another week, but they still managed to charge us ! We were
given a courtesy car and went to the village about 2 miles away for breakfast
and some provisions.
On Monday we left Kingman and travelled across to
Martha's Vineyard where we berthed in Oak Bluff, a Marina owned by the town.It
doesn't open until the weekend We were allowed to stay free. Thanks Todd.
Martha's Vineyard looked a great Island to tour around but we woke up to
rain and fog! so decided to move on
OnTuesday we had an adventurous day moving on 42 n
miles to Newport Rhode Island 25 to 30 knots of wind on the nose with a very
uncomfortable sea in thick fog and in the middle a fuel blockage stopped the
engine which took an hour to clear.
We tied up on Goat Island Marina which was shut !
