Things have improved! Santa Marta was a very useful stopover
and today is a new world. Found the Columbian Mr Fix-it who located some
steel wire and bulldog clips which we used to secure the stays and he
ferried out 100 gallons of diesel. The coast guard were a little twitchy but
gave up as he didn't speak any English and we certainly wern't admitting
that we understood a word he said!! We were lucky to avoid the pirates
(Columbia has big security issues and there was an attack in Cartagena on
the 2nd Dec) All in all we enjoyed our 24hr stay and everyone we met was
friendly and helpful. We set off again at midday Wednesday before the police
and coastguard returned.. The weather had abated and as I write (midday
Thursday) we are rounding Punta Gallinas and heading for Aruba, Curacao and
finally Bonaire. Christmas is back on and Dave and I should make the flight
back to Amsterdam on the 21st.
