Now sat in Quinto do Lorde marina on the eastern end of Madeira. Nice relaxed sail in about 10 kts. just forward of the beam. About half way across Chris was below writing the log when Caroline yells ‘Chris, whale!’ then a few seconds later ‘right here’! We sailed, quite literally, within 6 feet of this sleeping whale. He/she was probably just as scared as we were as a large brown stain formed in the water behind it ! We couldn’t have got any closer without actually hitting him.

Off to hire a car today to see the Island. Plan is to spend 3 or 4 days here then set off for the Canaries.
