43.22.00N 08.22.00W 16:30 - 28 July 2021 Arrived in A Coruna after another sail, or rather motor into headwinds for 50 miles! I'd like to say it was uneventful, but I can't! About 4 hours out there was an enormous bang and the engine stopped dead. An inspection revealed we were dragging the remains of a poorly marked lobster pot with a substantial amount of thick rope which was tangled around our propeller.... A brief moment of panic ensued as with the wind direction from the North it would have taken a very long time to sail into A Coruna, so we were looking at returning to Camerinas. I thought, without much optimism it has to be said, of trying out the incredibly expensive rope cutter I had fitted to the propeller shaft some years ago. Without much hope I restarted to engine, and afer two or three false starts the rope was cut and we were free. PHEW!!! Anyway A Coruna is a great place! Lovely architecture and very cool people. There is a free concert tomorrow in the square featuring two tribute bands : Michael Jackson and Queen. we wil be going! |
