The dawn chorus of Martins was deafening.  They are very social birds. Also they eat lots of insects.  They didn’t manage a full breakfast as there were still clouds of nasty tiny biting insects around the boat, but we are told this is nothing compared to the full season effect.

We pottered down the river an hour and a half before high water, and it was really easy. Once into the Delaware we had to dodge dozens of fish pots until we got in the deep water channel.  There’s very little wind (WNW Force2) but full sunshine at the moment.

We passed close to a very elaborate 5 star light house on a shoal with  several small fishing boats clustered around.  Cape May is another 40 miles or so.   It looks like we’ll be motoring all the way.

By midday the heat haze has cleared and the outgoing tide is giving us a couple of free extra knots.  Still no wind and an absolutely flat sea.

We arrived Cape May and were tied up by 14:00.  We motored all of the 48 miles.

It is mildly nostalgic stop for me as I spend several formative years at The Cape May Playhouse in the mid 60’s.  I believe it has long been torn down.
