Day 25

42:03.500n
40:09.000w Distance to home:
1758 miles Distance run
today: 112 miles Course
070 We’re getting cold. Dressed for the Tropics and the weather
is more like an English summer but as it will get worse then we are resisting
the urge to wear everything we own. Domestic
Tim issued woolly hats
last night to help us keep in the cockpit for last nights card school. We have a tail-wind so the usual trick
of hiding from wind and weather behind the sprayhood isn’t
working. It’s now getting dark at
about We sacrificed one of our
breakfast eggs yesterday to have Tim make a chocolate cake which seemed like a
pretty good deal. Tea and cake for
a mid-afternoon snack is a good feeling. Sailing
Our spinnaker stayed up
for 36 hours and was replaced by twin, poled out headsails to take us through
the night. The wind is blowing from
the NW so this morning we are back on a reach and pointing directly for home at
5 knots plus.
Natural
History Many dolphins, we are
becoming so used to them that they no longer bring us all on deck. This morning they are managing to do
shark impressions as they are showing just their dorsal fins in the heavier
waves. We managed to “catch” the
trailing rope of the towed generator a couple of days ago and the time spent
unravelling the mess in the cockpit had put us off repeating the
experience. Time clearly heals all
wounds because Tim and Will have just set the lure out, taking great trouble to
maximise the distance between rod and rope. Here’s hoping … Today’s
responses Shaun Elliott – Happy
50th. Have a great
night. Jason – Ta for weather
but if we go to 45 North we will get 30 knots ! We plan to stay south of that and run
east in about 15. We don’t need to get knocked about for
now. Richard – Can’t see map
but our position flag should be about 500 miles NW of the
Mum (Pat) – Pavlova has
us licking our lips. Bye for now
