After a slow start from Las Palmas we are now
making good progress following some technical issues with our
Parasailor.Amazingly after 24 hours we can now only see 5 boats and all
issues with the Parasailor are resolved and we are making good headway with the
Parasailor in full flight managing 5knots in just 10 knots of wind.Ensuenos is
one of the heaviest boats in the fleet and to make real headway we need more
wind.
The Parasailor is certainly providing the comfort
we hoped for in sailing downwind.Today the sun is shining and the atmosphere is
relaxed and jovial and it will be a pleasure to cook tonight without sausepans
and other things flying around.We will have covered 135 miles in our first 24
hours and expect a simalar distance in the next and hopelly if the winds pick up
we should soon be averaging 150-160 per day.The first lottery has now taken
place for the ETA in St Lucia but it is a secret because we might still end up
in Brazil ! Whilst this is my diary entry,more will follow from the rest of the
crew so expect some varying content to follow.

Eindelijk na een lange tijd van voorbereiding zijn
we dan gisteren vanuit Las Palmas vertrokken met 25boten 0 andere voor de
oversteek naar st. Lucia in het Caraibisch gebied. Iedereen was behoorlijk
opgewonden natuurlijk en van alles moest natuurlijk nog even op het
allerlaatste moment gebeuren.Enorm veel uitzwaaiers bandjes, helicoptersen
een inmens oorlog schip en drie blusboten vormden de startlijn.Na eerst nog
wat pogingen de nieuwe spinaker (parasail) stabiel te krijgen hebben we vandaag
goede vorderingen gemaakt.We gaan eerst zuid naar de Kaap Verdische
eilanden eilanden die we naar verwachting op afstand zullen
passeren. Vanaf dat moment wordt de koers west en hopelijk met de pasaat winden
rechtstreeks naar St Lucia.Het is een zeer gevarieerde bemanning waar we de
komende weken mee "opgescheept" zitten. Dit op zich is al een boeiende
onderneming. Alle lege plekken, kastjes en bv de bijboot zijn op dit
moment nog gevuld met proviand maar dat zal ver een dag of wat wel anders worden
en dan gaan de hengels uit. Het weer is perfect en de zee is ca 26 graden.We
houden jullie op de hoogte en proberen van tijd tot als het lukt een foto bij te
voegen.
