51:05.04N 01:26.62E Passing through Straits of Dover. We are staying just
to the side of the shipping lanes, since there is significant traffic and it
is the middle of the night. AIS works great to identify type, course,
direction, etc. for all large vessels...and we send the same information to
them, since we have AIS (Automatic Identification System...it squawks
continuous position information and calculates CPA, closest point of
approach and TCPA, time before getting to CPA...great for avoiding
collision!). Wind 17 knots...current has shifted significantly! It's
cold!! Mike
