The journey continues.. next stop after Vanuatu is New Caledonia, or Nouvelle Caledonie. There was much hesitation about coming here due to the recent riots. FCO advice is to give the country a wide berth as the potential for more rioting is still ongoing. It is however absolutely on the way to Brisbane, and the weather forecast was not good. Noumea itself was very very French and chic, but felt like a ghost town during Covid. All the cars were parked up, going nowhere and the shops shut. Carrefour had been burned down earlier in the month. We were advised not to go into the northern part of the town and to stay in Noumea.
