We spent quite a bit of time in this marina - 4 days of which we had the boat out of the water to be antifouled in anticipation of going to Galapagos as they insist there that the boat is squeaky clean. Whilst the boat was on the hard standing we decamped to a hotel in Colon - the Sand Diamond or Sad Diamond as Patrick called it. Colon is a bit of a dump - the forgotten city in all the excitement to build the Canal. The Hotel was in a fortified compound on the outskirts of Colon. The security instructions on the back of the room key advised locking the hotel door from the inside, and not to accept any suspicious packages. The entrance to the bar prohibited the carrying of firearms which I suppose was a relief. Shelter Bay in the middle of some great jungle and wild bits, including this former FWW US barracks which was totally overgrown. Lots of howler monkeys but so far no sloth.
