Santa Cruz - our last Galapagos Island
We arrived here on 29 February – Puerto Ayora. This is the main town and a real hub for Galapagos tourism with an international airport and being at the centre of the archipelago the starting point for tours. The harbour was pretty full and we chose to put out a stern anchor (with the help of Bico). Santa Cruz was a time of change for us – Sam, Clemmie and Susannah get off the boat here, and Jean, Jules and Didi join. Susannah plans to re-join in the Marquesas – she couldn’t cope with the idea of 3000 NM crossing. We set off all together, a team of 7, to visit North Seymour which is an Island just beside Santa Cruz and home to lots and lots of land iguanas and large populations of frigatebirds, blue-footed boobies and swallow-tailed gulls. Sam, Clem and Susannah left on 3 March – terrible scare on the way to the airport. Susannah left her computer bag in the back of the pick-up truck on the way to Baltra – with no internet signal it was tough to get a message to the driver. All sorted in the end. |
