You may have observed from the plots that I haven’t made as much progress as I had hoped and that is because the winds have not been in my favour in getting to the canaries. The winds are still not in my favour but right now I’m not concerned about the canaries its the storm that is racing up out to the west that I want to avoid.

Looking at the latest weather update (see pic) my priority is keeping away from that ugly black thing to the left the storm.

If I stay where I am I’m on the fringes of the storm which might be ok but I don’t want any might about it. So I am going east, away from the storm just to be sure, which is completely in the wrong direction for me but I think the most appropriate course.

If you look at the forecast map my current position is about half way vertically where the most easterly of the red arrows appear (one red in between two oranges).

So I am now heading east to above Bilbao where the green and yellow arrows are. (I don’t actually need to get as far as above Bilbao).

I have measured the distance and its about 100 miles away and Ive got over 2 days to get there and as it happens the winds are helping me in this direction. If I don’t make as much progress as I hope by tomorrow I will also use the engine.

This will extend the time to get to the canaries but I don’t mind its the storm I’m avoiding.

(Although the bay is not the place to be in a storm - if the storm is outside the bay - then its probably the best place to be.
