36:46.496N 27:21.616E One minute we’re in Fiddlers Creek and the next we’re in Turkey after a two week stint in a cold and wet UK. We’re here to join the Eastern Med Yacht Rally (EMYR) which started in Istanbul in late April and will finish in Israel in late June. We however intend to start at Gocek, which is a tad warmer at this time of year. We’ll try to do the blog throughout and hopefully you’ll be able to stay with us and enjoy the trip from a distance. We’ve talked the talk now we’re sailing the sail. Today we finally left Yalikovak marina, our home port, and have arrived at the first of our favourite watering holes, Knidos. This is an archaeological little known wonder dating back to around 350BC. It obviously was a very important port in Roman times, with a huge amphitheatre and masses of marble columns. There’s a temple to Aphrodite that dates back to 390-330BC. The antiquities are so common they’re scattered everywhere, we were even tramping on them! It is said that the few bits that have been excavated so far are dwarfed in comparison to what has not. It’s a pity the funds are just not there to do it justice. We’re confident our anchor is holding well so it’s now time for a sun-downer or two! Off tomorrow to another favourite watering hole. Life’s tough out here!!!
