Derek has kindly set up the blog for Sonsy Las,s as we have been settling in to the rigors of heading south to warmer climes Regrettably although we've travelled over 800 miles, there is no evidence of any balmy June weather, on the contrary, we have had cold heavy winds and rough seas most of the way.

Our maiden voyage began at Ipswich and took 2 days to get to Guernsey our first stop. The challenge of mixing with the big boys (tankers and ferries) out of Felixstowe and Harwich and along the Dover Straits, was quite hairy, especially during the night. The Alderney Race was a doddle to this boat! (Eat your heart your Jim Scott)

The passage from Guernsey to Brest in Northern France took 24 hours with the wind against us all the way and when coupled with a foul tide made it a longer trip than planned.

The next leg was from Brest across the notorious Bay of Biscay to La Coruna in Northern Spain. This was definitely a bit more challenging. With winds of Force 5/6 and on occasions 7, on our tail, seas that were heavy and confused, we were very glad indeed to see the Spanish coast 2½ days later. We could only sit back and admire how Sonsy Lass took it all on her stride reaching 10 knots at times! The rest of us just had to hang on in there!

We're now stuck in the marina and there are gales outside. Our next leg includes the infamous Cape Finisterre which we're not attempting until it settles down, even if it takes till Christmas. Past experience of hitting it in a Force 9 still haunts us. The weather looks promising Thursday/Friday, when we intend going down the Spanish/Portuguese coast and hopefully to warmer temperatures.

Meanwhille we just have to chill out and sample the local wines. Life's a bitch!!!!
