We left Gocek, Turkey, on Friday. It was a spectacular departure, the distant snow covered peaks of the Tauris mountains, 5000 metres high, windless conditions and a flat calm blue sea.
The undoing of Christine's mooring lines gave us our only piece of physical effort on and an otherwise quiet sail north. We went back to spend the night in the lovely bay of Buzuk Buku, which was a pit stop on the way down. The captain's 'stern-to' anchoring onto the restaurant's pontoon in difficult conditions, was the envy of other boat crews. They had all struggled with a strong wind which literally came out of the blue.
Later, en-route to the restaurant, Alex took to the water again. This time it was between the dock and the aft platform of Sonsy Lass. Whoops!!
This morning we departed from BB, once again in flat calm conditions, to make the short trip up to Simi. Although a wind did get up it was on our nose., so we motored. We arrived late morning and once again, Capt June performed a perfect stern- to manoeuvre on to the harbour wall in the middle of the town. This was with the customary audience in attendance, their ranks being swollen by tourists. No sweat.
In contrast to the other islands we've visited, this is a honeypot for visitors from ferries and cruise ships. We feel if anymore come on to the island it will sink.
All the idyllic conditions we're experiencing is in contrast to poor Colin, who is stuck in Milford marina en-route to Falmouth, with 40m/h winds, fairly cool temps and the inevitable rough sees. He is the one that keeps telling us that 'life's a bitch'.
It's now 5 o'clock and there's a taverna calling on us!!!
