Cala Fornells, Menorca, Spain 40 02.9N  04 12.1E

Today's Blog by David (Time zone: BST+1; UTC +2)

Our evening ashore in Puerto Fornells was preceded by an interaction with Officialdom.  Apparently, whatever it might say on the charts and in the pilot books, we were anchored where we should not have been.  A very busy little man in a bright red RIB zoomed up at 100mph and ‘esplayned’ that we had to move.  My seeking clarification of exactly how we had transgressed and what we were now supposed to do led to the man energetically telling us exactly where to go accompanied by many  gesticulations all the while zipping around in his bright red RIB.

Ashore then for dinner. It seems Fornells has long been famous for its lobsters either with mahonesa or as caldereta de langosta (basically a stew) and as soon as we were ashore we searched out the recommended restaurant. I don’t think I could ever buy a stewed lobster a but at Euro 69  per person even grilled with mayonnaise failed to spark our appetites. The plat du jour however, was a different kettle of fish, (so to speak) offering excellent sole hake or squid.

The Spanish do not eat early, especially at the weekend, and our chosen restaurant was not open when we first landed and so after a brief tour of the town we settled down for a beer in a roadside bar while we waited.   When the time came to settle the bill I approached the building with my wallet only to run into Antony and Patsy Stalker – residents of the Parish of Hawkley and owners of a flybridge Fairline 58 called ‘Hooligan’.  Note 1

It’s a small world ……………
