Handbag Polka 2

World Cruising have chosen the village in Port Resolution as their place to “sponsor”.  They have donated towards the cost of the new school, accommodation at the yacht club etc.. They encourage the fleet to buy and bring gifts for the village – to be exchanged in a formal ceremony in which the whole of the village turns out to greet the whole of the fleet.   It was an interesting day that others, I am sure, will blog about.

As part of the festivities we had another bout of Handbag Polka but this time the dancers were covered up (presumably to protect them from the sun..?).  The men ran around in circles again and jumped up and down. The women stood  singing around  the perimeter during the jumping up and down bit:

and ran around with the men  for the other bit:

(Reckon I could get a job as a ‘Strictly’ judge when we finish this Odyssey?).

My point here is not that the dancing is especially good or bad, but to draw attention to the clothing.  These are the most colourful dresses we have seen on the journey so far – they made it quite a spectacle and for me, made the whole event worthwhile.

We will come back to Vanuatu next year to “do it properly”.
