So…  Stories legion about knots that failed I have told or heard of.  And a day or so ago I posted a blog about splicing spectra – so you would think I could tie a knot?

Tonight, Marty and Lisa from “True Colours”  eventually (we have wanted to do have them here for a couple of  weeks)  came aboard for drinks. Marty gave ME the painter and I tied it on.   Well, I decided on a round turn and  two half hitches, and for good measure I did two more,  so there were four half hitches – honest.

About an hour later the festivities came to an end and it was time to go. One problem – no dinghy!

WELL ….  Simone,  having taken the wrap for a similar incident 18 years ago,  was bot reticent in pointing out that I had tied the knot – as indeed I confessed on enquiry. But the dinghy was not there, not visible …..  gone!

George was quick to fetch my Exposure Marine X2 torch: a YW recommended piece of kit that I have found hard to get to terms with but which George had spent the time to make his friend.  Well, good that he had, because he was able to turn it on and pointed it in the right direction and – within sight – there was a very lonely dinghy.

So – HOW embarrassing – but at least the dinghy was recovered.

Henceforth BOWLINES only.

HOW EMBARRASSING!
