Serendipity is now hard aground in Grenada settled in a purpose built cradle and tied down to the ground.  All systems have been ‘winterised’ and the Boatyard is, as I write, working out how much I can contribute to the GDP of Grenada.

I, on the other hand, am now back in the UK contemplating a Big Birthday on Sunday after which I will whistle down to the Railway Station and get my Senior Rail Card!  I am shortly off out to the local pub to  sample Proper Beer for the first time since January.

I do have some other things to share with you in due course …..  but before I go a note on Ultrasonic Antifouling.

I published these  pictures of Serendipity ashore in Fiji in June 12 when she was hauled amd washed down with a HP hose six months after she was anti-fouled in St Lucia.

Compare that to the hull earlier this week, 16 months after she was last hauled and Anti-fouled in New Zealand (she hasn’t been out of the water since Jan 2013).

The difference is stark – and entirely the result of having fitted an Ultrasonic Antifouling system. This works by sending an ultrasonic vibration through the hull (and thus the surrounding water) which self-evidently deters the usual crustacea (barnacles and corals) from hitching a ride.

I explained in more detail at http://blog.mailasail.com/serendipity/223   The results have been quiite remarkable – saved virtually all the installation cost in one year.
