Thursday 12th  January 2012  Caribbean Sea 11 54,9N  74 08.7W

It's Thursday, our 5th day on this passage to San Blas and Panama and it's turning out to be stonking good sail.  The wind has been a fairly constant 15 to 20 knots on our tail so with our twin headsail rig we are ploughing the Caribbean Sea at a steady 8 to 9 knots.  We still have not hit the magic  200 miles in 24 hours marker but with the wind forecast to increase a little over the next 24 hours we live in hope.

Of course everything has its drawbacks and the consequence of that wind is that we are rolling somewhat  in a fairly big following sea which makes life uncomfortable at times.  Trying to keep things together in the galley is a particular challenge.  It's my turn to cook tonight, it will have to be simple.  Boeuf en sol looks favourite.

Yesterday we forgot to mention that we had a couple of passengers along for the ride.  Here they are:

Terry the Tern took up residence on the dinghy sometime during the night while Betty the Booby felt more at home sitting on the end of the boom. No small feat when you consider that in the swell the end of the boom is rising and falling about 10 feet every 20 seconds.  Undeterred Betty sat there and preened herself through the night.  Later Terry’s chum came along and took up residence on the Bimini.

When dawn came they made a leisurely departure and we think that Terry’s chum might be interested in purchasing Serendipity since he left a deposit.

I think that we have already reiterated that this is not a race.  However en passant there appear to be 4 boats keen to cross the finish line first, just coincidentally we are currently lying second and the wind shift that’s forecast should favour us.  There’s about 290 miles to go and my money’s on noon on Saturday.  Come on Serendipity.

Have a nice day
