When we arrived in Nassau we thought it would be a short stop to put Deb & Jules on the flight home and re-provision. Here we are 10 days later trying to sort out a problem as to why the engine won't charge the batteries. Two days of Robbie's head scratching and another day with Les (Pinnical) and John, on [Another Adventure],and the towel is thrown in and the engineer is called. More head scratching and John the engineer decides we need a new alternator, it's now Friday and 4pm - too late to order from Mastervolt Florida. So we sit for the weekend in the marina on shore power and wait to order on Monday morning.
Monday morning and after a frustrating couple of hours on skype telephone (how did we manage before?), we have a new alternator on the way. Next problem to avoid the astronomical import tax! A copy of our Bahamian cruising license needs to be attached to the package before shipment, so we faxed that, again how did we manage before? That saved us $600 duty, but at least it took the edge off the $350 freight. BOAT you might have heard it before - Break Out Another Thousand!
Now for the good news, the package arrived a day earlier than we expected and John came to fix the new part. First attempt - no go, it seems we might need a new regulator too, can't print what Robbie's words on that. More head scratching and surfing the internet (again hdwmb) and Robbie discovers an anomaly in the wiring system - another skype call to John. John returns to Maymio at 7pm and the wiring is changed and bingo we are off to the Exumas tomorrow. Not after another $200! and it was all Robbie's suggestion.
Fingers crossed for the morning.
