Just a week late for the Mars launch but saw the rocket site. We had our own relaunch in Harbourtown Marina when we were lifted out for couple hours to wash Maymio's bottom, replace old zincs, touch up the anti fouling and mend the corroded bolt fixing the ssb ground plate. This marina is very good value and a good sheltered position off the barge canal, due west of Cape Canaveral and before the ICW. Speaking of which we tried to re-enter the canal to go south last Friday and were thwarted by another 65' bridge being only 64' and hence a hurried withdrawal and back to the marina! They have been so nice here taking us shopping and to the pawn shop where Robbie was able to buy a good socket set for a snip. Other jobs achieved here include a thorough wash down after the some what erratic power wash, a new float switch for the bilge pump, fitted another separate bilge pump making use of the water maker pump and surprise, surprise we got the fridge working.
Today we are back out to sea again and down to Fort Pierce, a short overnight hop of 70 miles.
Lots of wildlife in the canal, huge manatees - yet to be caught on film even though they move fairly slowly, ospreys, turkey vultures, dolphins and lots of varieties of storks and herons. On the down side are the biters, known by the Americans as "no-see-ums", they are like gnats with a really bad attitude. They like hot sunny still days and give a nasty nip that will go on itching for days. Regular use of spray help a bit but they still seem to find the tender bits you miss.
