It's a funny feeling sitting in Somes Sound Harbour knowing that Irene is making her way up the Eastern Seaboard. The latest forecast is that she is loosing some of her strength, now category 1 rather than the 3 when she was between Bahamas and North Carolina. It is still going to be a strong storm by the time it reaches Maine with very heavy rainfall, about 7 inches in passing.
We have spent time and thought into taking as many precautions as we can, 2nd anchor, tying anything down that can't be removed. We plan to stay on board unless it looks as though it will get worse. We're stocked up on food and water - even though we are only 300 yards form the dinghy dock.
The anchorage here is filling up and everyone is introducing themselves to one another, it's like a kind of war spirit. Most are planning to stay on board their boats and will be listening out on the vhf. So it's early to bed tomorrow night as the storm is expected to arrive at about 3am, I said we'd better set the alarm clock, Robbie said he didn't think we would need to!
Yesterday we took advantage of the beautiful day and hiked up to the top of mount Parkman, hardly a mountain according to Robbie who says Hay Tor is higher! I have to say it was far more strenuous a climb than I remember Hay Tor.
Thanks to all who have sent emails of late, we have certainly had quite a bit on our plate and it's been lovely receiving so many thoughtful messages from family and friends.

Photos:  Fog in Maine visibility about 100 yards, picking muscles for supper, view from mount Parkman. Fungi on Mount Desert (especially for Phillipa) and woodpecker damage.
