With our two weeks of preparation in Las Palmas at an end we have successfully completed a host of tasks including re-rigging, provisioning and seminars all aimed at ensuring an enjoyable and trouble-free passage. Regrettably this period, which has included numerous 'Happy Hours' and festive celebrations, became tinged with sadness when it became clear on Thursday Wilf would need to return to London to seek medical advice for a stomach ailment which may not have improved with three weeks on a boat. Jen tried her best but no end of medication seemed to help.  Wilf has been involved with the preparation of the boat for many months and it is sad for him not to participate at this very late stage. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him fit and well and ready to take our lines in St Lucia.

We cross the start line at 1300 today, just one of some 240 official entries with perhaps a similar number following within the next couple of weeks. Look out on the world cruising club website of the start and follow he tracking of all the boats on their website. The spirit and friendship amongst the yachtsmen and women from many nations has been tremendous and we all feel we have benefited from the experience. The ARC organisation has been excellent.

Images in this entry show the marina, ARC celebrations and scenes from the island of Gran Canaria whose people have shown great hospitality - mindful of the next time we see an island it will be St Lucia!

Hopefully text blogs to follow but no photos until we reach the other side in about three weeks due to the limitations of internet links over a satellite phone.

We are ready and looking forward to our trans ocean adventure!

Thanks to Tony and Wilf for the fantastic photos of the opening carnival and the juggler at the traffic lights entertaining the cars.
