We left West Palm Beach and the USA on 23rd December and had an easy passage across the gulf stream and the Bahamas.
Arriving on the Little Bahamas bank the depth sounder went from too deep to register to 3 metres in two minuets and we haven't lost sight of the bottom since. The sea is very shallow but crystal clear so if you're looking it's easy to see the coral heads and dodge them. Our confidence is growing sailing in shallow water now but there are still some breath holding moments when the sounder is reading 0.0 and there's a trail of curned up sand behind us!
We spent a very peaceful Christmas anchored off Nanjack Cay and had a walk and a swim after lunch on the ocean side in the sunshine, see photo.
We checked into the Bahama officially when we got to Marsh Harbor. We had to go into the marina to do the paperwork and pay the customs officer and whilst doing so Maymio's went aground so we had to wait for nearly 24 hours for the tide to get back out to the anchorage. Now we are legal having paid our $300 for which we get a three month fishing license and a visa for 110 days - now to catch those fish. We did catch a barracuda on the way over but threw it back as it was a bit on the small size and we had a fridge full of food for Xmas.
Marsh Harbor has a active boating community and it takes no time at all to catch up with old friends and make new ones. Kevin & Jean on Amokura who we met in Porto Santo in September 2010, were already established in Marsh Harbor and invited us to join them for a BBQ of crawfish, some of which they caught snorkeling on the reef just outside the harbor.
New Year was spent aboard a catamaran (sorry Tony) where we had a pot luck supper, lots of beer, wine and salty dog stories. Anthony was our host, ex RAF, now living and working in Washington DC. At midnight there was a great firework display on the waterfront and the Junkeroo kicked off in the town.
Since New Year we have been getting some odd jobs done and getting ready for Deb & Jules' arrival on Tuesday. The weather is looking a bit breezy for their first days but then plenty more warm sunshine to follow, oh, and 0% chance of rain.
We would really love to send some of this Bahamian sunshine and blue skies home to you all but as that isn't possible, instead we wish all our followers best wishes for a very Happy and Healthy New Year.

Jen & Robin.
