We are finally back afloat on Bamboozle after an
extended period back ashore in Europe. Poor old Bamboozle must have
thought she had been abandoned and we knew we had been away for too long when we
got back to find a birds nest in the boom! Despite the months of neglect
all is well onboard and with a very smart new paint job she is looking smarter
than ever.
We managed to re-launch just a few days after we got
back to New Zealand and headed straight over to Auckland which is of course in
the grip of World Cup Fever. Many months ago we managed to secure one
of the few moorings in Viaduct Basin Marina which is right in the middle of
downtown Auckland and stumbling distance from all the bars, restaurants and
excitement of a city invaded by rugby fans. There are giant screens up on
the dock showing all the matches and rugby is the only thing people are talking
about.
We have been lucky enough to get tickets for many of the
games taking place in Auckland and are even within walking distance of Eden Park
which will host many of the remaining matches including both the semis and of
course the final. The atmosphere around town is fantastic and should
remain that way for as long as the All Blacks are still
involved. With England, France, Argentina and the mighty All Blacks
playing here this weekend it probably won't be a quiet one!
We have quite a bit of work to do onboard over the next
few weeks/months and New Zealand is a wonderful place to undertake the sort of
work one might not feel so comfortable having done in Panama. I have been
very happily spending my mornings immersed in oil and grease in the engine
before emerging to absorb the atmosphere later in the day. Spring has as
yet made an unconvincing arrival this far south and we will await the end of the
RWC and some slightly warmer weather before setting off to explore the glorious
Kiwi cruising grounds.
