We have made it! At 5.30pm last night local
time we dropped our hook in the Hana Vave Bay. We had covered the 3055
miles in 19 days and 8 hours (give or take a few time zones). Quicker than we
had dared hope with Neptune being kind to us and no dramas on
board.
The island is even more dramatic than one
imagines. Towering peaks, dramatic gorges, tumbling cliffs and palm trees
right down to the water's edge (and green, seriously green).
There was no chance of an early night because as
soon as we had anchored, our old friend Peter came across in his dingy to invite
us to join a crowd of them for BBQ'd Wahoo on Shoestring. Also
aboard were Minaret and Shine, two of the boats we have been speaking to
everyday on the radio net. Great to finally put some faces to some very
familiar voices!
We were up early this morning after a great
night's sleep and found two huge manta rays playing around the boat. Last
night we were told there is quite a lot of interesting wild life in the bay
including regular sightings of a huge swordfish and hammerhead sharks.
Jamie is still telling me it is fine to swim, I am not so sure!!
