Since leaving Auckland we have been making our way slowly up the east coast of the North Island and are now in the Bay of Islands. Those of you with even the remotest grasp of Kiwi Geography may well say "Well....that's not very far" but to be fair there are just so many lovely bays to visit and places to explore. This year will be very different from last year's trek across the wide reaches of the Pacific but we are already finding the cruising here very special.
Which way is up?  Navigating along the coast.
On top of Mt Hobson giving a stunning 360 degree view of Great Barrier Island
Apparently this route used to be a wet and muddy scramble but the tracks are now so well looked after and as the holidays are yet to begin we find we have the place to ourselves.
You can tell this is New Zealand because of the sheep.  Bamboozle anchored in Urupukapuka Bay in the Bay of Islands.  "It's a lovely spot!" as the Kiwis would say.....
Being bamboozled on Bamboozle.  A pause for a cup of tea and a think......and yes I do now need glasses!  Last year I spent the whole time complaining about how small the writing was on things and bought a magnifying glass but a few helpful friends pointed out that it is probably my age.
Lucy has introduced a new exercise regime.  Personally I think it looks like she is practicing waterskiing and it doesn't look much fun!
First swim of the year.  Don't be fooled by the inviting clear blue water...it is still distinctly chilly and I have not managed to tempt Lucy in yet.
Another reason that Lucy won't swim is because of the big brown jellyfish.  This one has made its way up into our saltwater strainer. It was a good job we found it before we started the engine.
Another job for the big black marigolds!

Working in the garden.  Fresh mint, basil and coriander to keep scurvy at bay.  We don't often get a chance to grow herbs but hopefully I can keep the saltwater off this lot for the summer.
Another stunning view across the Bay of Islands.  Their great reputation is well deserved and a they are a wonderful cruising ground.
Another day and another hill.  We are relishing the opportunities to get ashore and enjoy the fabulous walks.
A successful fishing trip in "Katie the Kayak" with my new rod.  Fresh snapper on the BBQ for supper.  From the smile on my face you would think I had caught Moby Dick but I am easy to please and a snapper big enough for two made my day.
