Lucy looking more like a tourist than a cruiser.
This area at the southern
end of Fakarava has this beautiful pink
It was actually a working trip to
collect sand for the concrete for Manahi's building project of
constructing a BBQ and pizza oven at
Here he is landing his boat on the beach we were
about to "borrow".
Lucy helping to load the sand..... as you can see she
is clearly an absolute
natural with a shovel.
On the return trip with a couple of tons of
sand. I am still smiling as I did not yet
know that we were going to have to help unload it all
again the other end!
We have been swimming, snorkeling and diving with
sharks every day. They do not seem at all
interested in us but do take a bit of getting used
to. These are small black tip reef sharks who have
all turned up after someone gutted a fish on the end
of the dock.
Dinner at Manahi's pension with some of the
cruisers. One of the specialties is a Tuamotoan
sea snails served like French escargot with lots
of garlic and butter.....delicious.
After dinner the plates are just dropped into the
water to be cleaned by the fish!
There is always work to be done on the boat.
Here is the skipper fixing a broken bilge pump.
Lucy is always nervous when I start taking something
important to pieces so far from outside assistance.
I would like to report this bilge pump is now back in
place and working better than ever!
The jobs are shared around, Lucy sewing up a seam in
the Genoa. A sailmaker may
not be very impressed with the look of the stitching
but it should at least keep us going
for the moment.
The deserted beaches make perfect BBQ
venues . It is no surprise when it is
on the menu
again, cooked in the embers of the fire. Lucy is just checking to see
how dinner is coming along.
The car park!
Well fed cruisers. It is amazing how creative
everyone is...... although the last
decent supermarket was over 4000 miles ago everyone manages to produce
wonderful dishes for the
It is peak season here and this is a very busy
evening by local standards.
If you are looking to truly "get away from it all"
(and you like fish) this could be the spot.
