An early start this morning, “on deck” by six o’clock, out on our way by six thirty, in time to see the sunrise.

15 knot of wind on the nose, had to rev the engine a bit to get the 6 knots speed over ground SOG that we use for our calculations. However an hour later our speed was picking up and we could reduce engine revs. We were soon back to 2000 rpm which is what we used to calculate our fuel burn and range; 4.5 litres per hour per engine which gave as a range of 550 miles with the 80% fuel load we set off from Sotogrande with. A slight wind shift meant we could get the sails up and our speed rose to over 8 knots, so we are currently ahead of schedule.

We will go through the night tonight and then stop at Gurracha tomorrow afternoon.

The wind is now 2-3 knots, the sails are back down and the sea is smooth, although a little rolly still.

We have had so many dolphins swim with us today, starting with a few big bottle nose and the loads of common.

Apparently this means there are eight on the starboard bow.

We have officer Will on board so we are all learning loads.

Sometimes you just have to take the smooth with the rough!!
