Race Day

It’s race day! Time to take a quick stroll round the harbour to view the
competition and catch up with some of our fellow sailors.
Looking good in our Moose tops. A boy band perhaps?!
Before our departure, there’s a send-off by the local Spanish band, very
rousing! You’ll notice the professionally prepared rod in background – I think
we may be on a fishing trip. Perhaps Rik has conned us all?
Then we leave the harbour in our 10m boat, via a 12m gap!
We head out to the open sea and at 12.30 the multihulls are off and flying.
Well, not quite flying because the winds are light to start with, but after a
few hours we start to gather pace, as we goose-wing under spinnaker and
mainsail.
We’re passed by a Kiwi boat, clearly under motor!
And as day turns into night, we enjoy a great sunset, followed by a
wonderful meal cooked by Rose.
It’s been an exciting first day. We got up to fourth place in the
multihulls, after taking a direct route, close to shore. But the highlight of
the day, must have been by Rose and Guy, who spotted a hammerhead shark next to
the boat!
