After almost nine days at sea, we are still searching for those illusive
trade winds which will carry us to St Lucia. We have headed south of the
Cape Verde islands and are now making our way west (all be it under motor at the
moment) as we have heard that the trade winds are slowly building and heading up
towards us. Last night was spent dodging squalls and thunder storms, which
while spectacular, did mean that we looked like drowned rats during much of the
night shift. After a little rain this morning, today has turned into a
scorcher (partly due to the lack of wind).
Today has been a day of minor repairs and odd jobs, all those things that
you never get round to doing otherwise, seem like a great distraction when
motoring to find the wind (Guy might disagree as he has spent several years
doing minor repairs and odd jobs)
The mood on board Avalon is still very upbeat and everyone is looking
forward to a few glasses of Rum at the other end. We caught a small tuna
this morning but decided he should be allowed to grow a little bigger, and so
returned him to the sea. We are seeing dolphins regularly and they seem to
enjoy swimming with the boat and are not at all camera shy.
