WIND S/W 12
OVERCAST – SQUALLY
HEADING 180
DAY’S RUN after 21hrs 176 nm
After a very fast beat in a West South Westerly-our heading just
North of West in 20knots of wind at 7 to 9 knots boat speed. We now have
turned due South to head to Trades and avoid a hole developing (high
pressure and no wind) just West of us, but it is a shame to stop our
Westing, but it should pay dividends later)
Our watch system last night was quite tiring with just three
partaking – 1hr sleep/ 1hr stanby /1 hr helm, and repeated thru the night.
Debs was very disappointed that the promised downwind sailing had not yet
materialised and then only to be replaced with classic Solent /Channel beating
to windward ( the only activity she doesn't relish in sailing -heeling to about
25-30 deg), so we gave her the night off, After 3 delicious meals that day she
deserved it.
This morning brings beating to the South and waiting for winds to veer NW
as the gale system North of us goes thru.
Otherwise tired but all happy on board Avalon and I am personally loving
every minute of it (with the possible exception of been woken up at 3am
after one hour’s sleep and not knowing where the hell i was!
Nick’s blog to follow tomorrow , understandably he is tired today (his
excuse ) I think he is concerned about loosing out to Deborah or Federico
for a chance to win the bottle of rum !
