We arrived in Ponta Delgada in time for lunch after
a pretty uneventful sail from Horta. I'm sitting outside the marina bar
writing this and it is very hot. Ponta Delgada is bigger than Horta and not quite as pretty. We are
all looking forward to being alongside (the marina office is currently closed
for lunch- very continental) and not completing an obstacle course every
time we leave the boat.
We set off with what we think was about 10-15 knots
of wind (our wind gauge is still dead weight) and managed to get about 8
knots of boat speed- enough to overtake two Spanish boats before dinner- this
made Andy very happy and bought out a bit of a competitive streak (a
lot of sail trimming and offering to stay on the helm until we passed). However
the wind dropped and by 11pm we had to take down the sails and motor for the
rest of the trip. We passed another boat in the morning while under engine but
there's some debate about whether this counts or not.
