Atmosphere in the marina was amazing with a local
band going through whole repertoire, including roll out the barrel and swing low
sweet chariot and there were huge crowds cheering and waving the fleet out.
After a rainy start to the day, the weather improved and we left in sunny skies
and with a beautiful 20 knot northerly.
The start itself was all very mild mannered and we
found a lovely gap with clear winds. We have been making good progress with gull
winged genoa making an average of nearly 9 knots with winds picking up to 25
knots. We are now on starboard gybe and are going to keep heading south to ensure
we miss wind shadow at bottom of the island and will then harden up a tad.
It is amazing how quickly the fleet has spread
out although we have just had a huge yacht come pretty close across our
stern.
I have been looking forward to our first meal at
sea and it did not disappoint, tuna nicoise salad made by Joe and Mike which we
ate on deck watching the sunset
.
Joe says ' Are we there yet? '
