It appears we are halfway although most of
yesterday was spent motoring as we have reached the big high. There are two of
them and we are trying to thread our way between them, one to the north and one
to the east. As usual, when there is little action at the wheel we all get
bored and start to do little jobs or sun sights. Yes viewers, even though Reecy
does not quite get it, Andy and I were again taking sun sights and trying to
work our way through the tables. Yesterday a Mer Pass, today a running fix,
tomorrow who knows.
We also did man overboard drill yesterday and
tested all our electronics. The first MOB exercise was with a buoy (how dull) so
once we had recovered and on our way again I decided to make it more realistic
by jumping over the side. I found the bobbing up and down in 4000m of water and
watching the yacht moving away at 6 kts was a fairly sobering
experience!
Older viewers from last year may recall Jason was
the holder of the 3 dump Ingham award. Line honours that seemed fairly
safe until this voyage. I was in the running for this until very
recently when midwife Andy dispensed some drugs and I had an induced
birth. I have since also had a natural birth so problem solved. Not top shelf
but pretty close (sic. Dave).
USO!! Just as we settled down for breakie this
morning Andy jumped up and shouted "Whale". Naturally we all followed his gaze
and I spilt my Earl Grey tea. Nothing could be seen, even though Andy stood on
the foredeck with a camera for 10 mins. I think Andy has spotted my UFO under
water so 1 down to Andy's Unidentified Swimming Object.
Other than that we continue to wish for more wind,
but not too much. Try to work out what weather is coming our way from the cloud
formations and dream of hot showers and the usual landlubbers activities
when we reach port.
As promised yesterday here are the Kantara Crew DID
