Antarctic Photos 7 – Whales & Seals

The paparazzi photograph a Crabeater seal on a
floe

“Whose disturbing my siesta?”

What whale is it? A Humback on the left … and a Minke on
the right

The snout of a Minke … and its blow – downwind, it smells
disgusting

We had an incredible hour in the company of two Minke
whales swimming around and under the boat

… the one on
the right is swimming on its side so it can see us properly

The fluke of a Humpback diving

Weddell seals have a face like a Labrador
dog

… whilst a
Leopard seal looks like a cartoon dinosaur

… with an
impressive mouth full of razor sharp teeth for skinning penguins – they also
allegedly have a taste for inflatable dinghies, so we never leave ours in the
water

In Deception Island and at Palmer Station we saw Elephant
seals

… not quite
as pretty as the Weddell seals
