1st - 2nd August: Aldernay to L'Aberwrach via Guernsey (156 nm, 28 hours)

Relaxed morning (trip ashore) followed by taking an afternoon tide through the 'Swinge' and the Little Russell channel to St Peter Port, Guernsey (23 miles - 4 hours) - beer (or two) ashore in the marvellously refitted Ship Inn - then dinner on board - before taking the night tide towards North West Brittany... an uneventful but somewhat rolly (not a lot of sleeping) night. Rob and Rich played a little 'chicken' with an oil tanker in the wee small hours of an otherwise uneventful first night passage. One mackerel lost off the first cast before dawn - too much engine....which is the story of this leg as we have had to motor all the way. We're not sure who writes the forecasts - but no sign of the predicted NW wind on the beam yet again - perhaps we are not looking at the right one or ?? On arrival the grand old duke of Newman tour of L'Aber Wrach ...he marched us up to one end of the street and he marched us back again...in search of a fish restaurant. This clearly sharpened the skipper's appetite as Rob went on to clear not only his own but also the plates of any resting, replete or inattentive diners in range. James ordered a crab and was a little surprised and taken aback when they served him a crab. Fortunately help (Rob) was on hand.

catch of the day: nothing - lost one mackerel
