A great sail on a broad reach all the way from Mazagon to Chipiona. A
lovely marina, close to several beautiful beaches. Last night we walked
all the sea front to their huge lighthouse. It looks quite tropical with
all the palm trees and it's very hot. On our way back we saw a brass band
in one of the squares by the cathedral, and realised it must be a fiesta.
Sure enough, quite soon we could smell the incense as 4 huge candle sticks
were carried out on to the steps. the band started to play, then as they
finished the Saint Estrella De Los Mares was carried out of the church
sitting on a gold throne, surrounded by flowers. The 4 bells in the tower
started to ring like crazy and went on for ages as the crowd cheered.
We didn't wait for the end, but on our way home saw old ladies sitting in
their chairs on the pavement waiting for the procession to pass, and
children with buckets of petals ready to throw.
Today, we have had two swims already, and managed to construct a temporary
bimini from a sheet as it is very, very hot.
