Miraflores Locks - Pacific Side

Canopus 3 on the Blue Water Rally

This sunny side makes for more interesting viewing - the first wave of BWR boats break out of Lake Gatun and dip their keels in the Pacific for the first time!

Again, in strings of three, they first drop through the San Pedro Locks (2 of them), pass under the Centennial Bridge, and drop through the last two Miraflores Locks:

Presumably, the little sail boats you see by the terraces include Canopus along with two buddies, steadily making their way to the Miraflores Locks, doing their best not to be run over by massive ships.

They survived getting past this ship...

The first wave of ships enters the next to final lock

Three by three, they get strapped in

Row three has a bit of a struggle

But all is righted and row four settles in as well

Then for some reason the Panama canal webcam focuses on some guy on his cell phone for some ridiculous amount of time.  Huh?

Fortunately, the attention returns to the event at hand and all five rows of boats are set for the next to last drop.

And so they drop.

And off they go into the final lock.

Do you see the Pacific?  It's right there!  Beyond the last gate!

Hello row three!  Are you excited?  I am!

Then suddenly they all shoot forward and I barely have time to catch Canopus's bow and mast...

... and her stern - didn't even get to see my people on it!  Hopefully they post pictures soon...
