As soon as the engine started up again at 6:48 I woke up, I got dressed,
cleaned my teeth and I then put on my lifejacket and water proofs so I wouldn’t
freeze or turn into an frozen ice cube! When I had done this I climbed into the
cockpit and I started to listen for Catrin’s crying. We approached the marina at
five and a half knots, there where ferries and fishing boats racing towards us
and away from us at speeds of eight and a half knots! Grandad told me that there
had been a big ship which they had to radio, they had to tell him to change his
course so he wouldn’t hit us over the radio he said that he would change his
course so he wouldn’t hit us. I was also told that there had been very thick
fog, I heard Grandma blow the fog horn, the fog horn alerts ships that they
could run into us if their not careful! When we came in we saw that the port was
a very busy container ship boat yard. When we had moored up a big
container ship came in it was being pulled by a small ship that has a very
strong engine it is called a Tug boat.
All the adults looked very tired from the overnight sail as they only got a
two hour sleep that night! It was hard getting to sleep as we where rocking
backwards and forwards it was also very hot down stairs, the heat came from the
engine. When we arrived I helped tidy up the boat, as we where doing this Harry
and Catrin woke up. Now that they where awake we could all have breakfast.
After breakfast I put some summer clothes and I prepared to go and explore
the town whilst Grandma and Grandad would sleep in their cabin. As we walked
along the creaky wooden floating pontoon we spotted a diver, he was changing the
mooring ropes, these ropes would be given to you when mooring up, the ropes are
attached to a concrete slab that is under water.
When we had walked along the pontoon we followed the main road to the
centre of the town, it had a bank of Sardinia, this building was very grand, the
main town also had lots of ice cream parlours! We stopped at one which was full
of Lindt products, Mummy and Daddy had crepes whilst Harry, Catrin and I had ice
cream. Behind us sat a famous cathedral, the cathedral was HUGE! You could see
inside, inside I could see a statue. It was hard to make out what the statue was
though.
Whilst we where walking back to Zulu we went to a patisserie shop, here we
brought donuts, the man who sold us the donuts showed us the bakery before he
went on to serving his next customer. From the bakery we brought some fresh
bread, when we where almost back at the boat I spotted a swordfish which was in
the fish market, the swordfish was giant! Though it defiantly wasn’t fresh as
its eyes where fading, the fish also smelt of fish instead of the sea. When we
where about ten meters from the pontoon we went into a shop, Harry asked the
lady who owned the shop how much a small fishing boat was she said fifteen
euros, Harry tried to convince Daddy that he had enough money though sadly he
didn’t.
When we got back to the boat Grandma and Grandad had had their sleep, they
where going to have lunch out, and they said that they needed to go to the bank
as well. Harry begged Grandad to change his Gibraltar pounds into euros, Grandad
said that he would try. After we had eaten lunch, Grandad and Grandma set of
into town.
Whilst they where doing this Mummy and Daddy put a movie on for us, whilst
they went for a nap. In the middle of the film Catrin got bored so I played tea
sets with her when the film ended I put another on as Mummy and Daddy where
still asleep. When they woke up I wrote the blog and soon after that Grandma and
Grandad returned, Grandad had lost his phone luckily he found it!
When they got back we had spaghetti bolognaise with chilli, after dinner
Granma and Grandad went out for tea whilst Harry and I read our books and we
then went to straight to bed as we where all shattered.
