When I had woken up I climbed up the steps to see that we where doing
another sixty mile trip. After our breakfast I started my maths homework, when I
had finished there was a sailing yacht on the radio. He was telling us that he
had a broken down engine, he did have a few boats helping him, they soon left
though. This boat was called Enit Ula a big blue Motor Yacht was next to Enit
Ula.
Suddenly a man from Enit Ula started waving at us, we motored over still
with the main up. We saw that Enit Ula was German and she was made of Aluminium,
we soon agreed to tow Enit Ula to Santa Maria. We had to radio the coast guard
to tell him that we would try to tow Enit Ula. We used Enit Ula’s blue nylon
octo-plat, this rope is able to stretch this makes the rope ideal for towing
another boat. We soon started to tow, I watched the rope stretch, when the rope
stretches all the water will suddenly ping of the rope! We kept the main up and
we motored at five knots. After lunch we had to tell the coats guard what our
position was and how many people where on our boat and how many people where on
Enit Ula.
When we where about half an hour away from Santa Maria we radioed the
Marina and the coast guard to tell them that we where still towing and what we
planned to do. We stopped towing when we drew near to the dangerous and shallow
entrance, a dingy came and dealt with the boat which we where towing. We stopped
concentrating on Enit Ula and we concentrated on coming in to the marina. We had
to be careful with coming in as the entrance is shallow.
About half an hour after we had arrived Enit Ula came in, when they had
tided up the gave us £100, a bottle of wine and a thank you postcard. Normally
the which has been towed pays the boat which towed them as a thank you. After
all our excitement it became tea time, we ate our tea up in the hot cockpit.
After tea we had to go to bed as we where all tired from the early start.
