When we had sadly said good bye to Grandma and Grandad we got dressed and
we set sail to Filicudi. For the first part of the journey we motored and Daddy
made water. Whilst Daddy was making water we could no longer see Sicily, but we
could see the volcanoes. After lunch Daddy quizzed us on volcanoes, when we drew
close to the first volcano we saw where all the lava had been flowing a long
time ago. This volcano is an extinct volcano called Alicudi, the volcano which
we would be staying at was famous for its terraces.
Whilst we where looking at the volcanoes Mummy saw something jump out of
the water we looked through the binoculars and we saw that the fish was a sword
fish! We saw two of these during the journey and we got some photos of the
swordfish. We didn’t put our lines out because if we caught a fish we wouldn’t
be able to land the fish as it was so big! For the last part of our sail we put
the main and genoa up and we sailed, we soon took the genoa down and we motor
sailed. When we came close to the bay we took the main down, so nothing would
happen sail wise.
When we had arrived in the bay we decided to pick up a buoy because
anchoring on a rocky sea bed would be very dangerous. When we had moored up on
our buoy we got ship shape, when we where ship shape we watched a man in a rib
help another man in a rib tie his rib to a buoy, there where five men on the rib
that was mooring to the buoy. The man in the rib who was the marina man even had
to climb into the rib as the people who where mooring knew nothing about being
on a buoy.
When Mummy had made our tea we sat down in the cockpit and we ate, when we
had eaten our dinner I moved from Harry’s cabin to my cabin. I had to move my
sleeping bag, my clothes, my swim things and my pillow. When I had moved into my
bedroom I read for and the a little while and I then finally got to sleep.
Sometimes it is hard to sleep because of the heat and the mosquitoes, it helps
if you keep your fan on though.
