Meet the evil monster people of the Messina Straits

 

Scilla the monster who would pluck you up from the sea and eat you!

Charybdis the monster who would suck you down using whirl-pools!

 

 

Today my Dad started the engines and we were sailing from volcano where the pigsty mud baths were to the messina strates were whirl pools were. We then went up on deck and we saw we nearly slept through the hole journey. We were right behind the whirl pools, they were in front of a light house and we saw a sword fishing boat. It has a high mast and a long platform at the front of the boat. A man sits at the top and drives the boat. He also looks out for swordfish sleeping on the top of the surface of the sea. When they see a sword fish the man at the top off the mast shouts to the man on the boat there is swordfish. The man on the boat crawls along the platform and spears the sword fish with a spear gun. We then we came to the whirl pools but we didn’t get sucked up. The Messina straits are all involved in Greeks, Myths and legends and the names of them are at the top of the blog.

 

People thought it was a monster that sucked them up but it was water spouts. In the olden days it was a lot worse due to the difference of the sea bed prior to an earthquake. We then got in front of the whirl pools and we saw the anchorage. Katie Catrin and I went down stairs and we played lego and then Dad anchored and we met a girl called Seiena and her parents Kim and Simon. They are sailing around the world for another three to five years. They are going to Greece in a few days to get their engine fixed. Seiena has a friend called Harry but its not me. Their boat is an Oyster 56 called Britican because Simon is British and Kim is American. We had finished our work so Dad said we could go swimming with them so we ripped our clothes off and we put on our swimming costumes and we jumped in to the water.  I soon got tired of swimming so I swam back to the boat and a got a fender from Mum and I sat on the rope it was attached to. it was soon time to get out off the water then we got out and we invited Seiena to the boat so we tidied up and Seiena came.

 

We had lots of fun playing together until it was time to go. Luckily they invited us out for tea so we got ready and we waited for their dingy to come. Then Seiena came and took us in their dingy, it was really fast, and once they went the highest speed and Seiena fell off. When we got there we took Branco’s dogs for a walk, they were called rosy and wily,  we took them for a walk and had tea went back in the dingy and went to bed.
