Saint Florent
Hi all, At 06.00 hrs on 12th August Tony slipped our bow line from the buoy in Calve and kindly left me in bed after a sleepless night due to a really rolly swell pushing into the bay. He motored in the early morning calm sea. Four and half hours later and 26nm and we tried to enter the harbour to take a mooring. The harbour master assured us there was enough depth, it was but with very little water and a mooring designed for a 40 footer. In true French style the harbourmaster seemed surprised when we said we didn’t want to stay in the space as Tioram was diagonal to the dock and any wind which might come on the bow would have left us fending off the transom. The joy of being tied to the dock is the freedom to explore ashore without constantly checking the wind direction etc, but a short mooring doesn’t equate to freedom so we slipped our lines and headed back out into the lovely bay to anchor for the night. Once all the visitors had arrived and with Tiorams anchor well dug in for the calm night we decided to explore ashore. The pretty town, 15th century citadel and harbour on the north east coast of Corsica sits in the curve at the bottom of the ‘finger, Cap Corse’ which points due north on the ‘top’ of the island. The pretty french harbour has a backdrop of mountains We found the charming streets in the Genoise citadel lined with bars, restaurants and chic shops. We wondered around the alleyways, square, church and fortress. A calm night at anchor. Photos of Saint Florent. Love to all, T and T xx |
