We untied our lines from the rocks and lifted anchor from Skhoinos bay to motor the short distance around the coast to Vathy, the capital town and harbour of Ithaca.
We motored into this grand bay last year and enjoyed the second arrival just as much.  The steep slopes of Ithaca and barren mountains tumble right down to the waters edge and in ravines the green cypress tress stand to attention.  Scattered amongst this is the odd house or villa with bright orange terracotta tiles, strongly looking like and historically influenced by Italian Venetians.
A tiny Greek church nestles on the one slope close to the sea level with a small path running the length of the inland bay to Vathy.  The shape of the mountains and sea is very like the Scottish Highland lochs---- but the temperature is very different.

We dropped our anchor and moored stern to the waterfront quay.  Ithaca is the land of Homer and the island home of Odysseus of Greek legend.
We enjoyed an overnight stay, exploring the town and a nice meal as well as what the girls called ‘shiny shopping’.

Photos of sailing and Vathy.

Love to all
